This Week’s Learning

This week I learnt  2 things in my akomanga. I learnt how to split numbers in Pangarau and how to make a sentence more interesting in Tuhituhi.

Splitting numbers is where you break up the numbers to make it easier to understand and calculate. Making a sentence more interesting is where you take a sentence like “The dog.” and turn it into “The big black dog ran fast down the busy highway.” Which is much more interesting than “The dog.”

I tenei wiki tetahi mea i kitea e au he wero.

I found the jump method in Pangarau challenging because I had only ever learnt about the split method once and that was a while ago.

Next week I would like to do more of making sentences more interesting.

My Action Station

Today I will be writing to you to tell you about my action station.

My action station was School Monster Attack and Matua Eugine was running it. The action station was run in Tane – Mahuta in the big breakout room. We had about 45 minutes to do it and we did it on Friday third block. The year 5 – 8 students have been going to their action stations for the last four weeks.

For School Monster Attack I had to draw my monster. My monster I drew was a gigantic octopus with horns and lots of eyes. Next I had to take a photo of my monster and put it on the background remover. That was not working for me so I did a background remover on Canva and it worked. After that we went outside and took a photo of us being scared. Finally I had to get the picture we took outside and put it as my background then it looked like the monster was scaring all of the kids.

I enjoyed drawing my monster. I also enjoyed going outside and taking pictures. I did not enjoy putting the picture of my monster on the background remover because it was not working. I tried two different ways to remove the background and it finally worked. It was not as cool as I thought it would be. I learnt how to use a background remover site.

Although it was cool I would like to try something new.

What I Did This Week

Today I will be writing to you to tell you what I had done this week.

One thing that I achieved this week that I am proud of is Math because we learnt lots of strategies which made Math easier and me better at Math. Another thing that I am proud of this week is Reading because we changed how we were doing reading which made me understand reading better which also made we get better at reading. The last thing I am proud of this week is Handwriting because I am getting better at writing my K’s.

One task that I really enjoyed this week was starting the new Math book this week because it was a new Math book and there were so many cool tasks to do inside of it. Another thing that I enjoyed this week was doing Handwriting because we had to put Reading and Handwriting together because there was not enough time to do them individually.

Next week I would like to write more short stories by writing a short story at least 2 times a week. I would like to write more short stories because I enjoy writing.

This Weeks Learning

This week I learnt different strategies in Maths.

I also learnt different ways to  celebrate in Kaupapa Matua and we had to go in groups of two and do a research project on a celebration and present it to the class but we have not presented it yet. My buddy and I are doing Chinese New Year.

I found Kaupapa Matua challenging because for the last three days of walk and wheel  week it was really cold, my hands would feel numb because it was so cold and one week it was raining but that was not so bad because me and Pip wore our matching jackets and they were really warm.

I really enjoyed Pangarau because we learnt lots of different strategies to divide, add, subtract and multiply. Which made Maths more easy.
