Term 2 Reflection

This term we have learnt

I loved doing pangarau with matua travis, it was so much fun because I love maths – link We made a superhero that would stop pollution and we had to describe it head to toe – link I have learnt what adaptation, we did adaptation on an animal – link I have learnt how to save a stranded whale. I have learnt that pollution harms much more creatures then I thought pollution would. I have learnt how to be a better kaitiaki in our environment. We have been learning about the sand dunes. I have learnt lots about x tables. I have learnt how to tell the time. We have been learning how to use a ruler properly. We have been learning lots about measurement. My favourite thing I learnt was maths.

What would we do without sand dunes?

On Friday 16 June we went on an excursion to North New Brighton Beach. We learnt about the sand dunes. We are learning about how to be a kaitiaki of our moana. On the haerenga I learnt that the stone on the mountains breaks off and goes down the river and in the river the stone breaks down into tiny pieces and then the waves bring the little pieces of stone onto the beach and it makes the sand. People made sand dunes to protect the houses.

The creatures that live in the sand dunes are skinks, katipo spiders, sand hoppers and sand scarab beetles. You can see lots of sand hoppers at the sand dunes but you barely see katipo spiders at the dunes because they are scared, shy and they are nocturnal. Katipo spiders are also poisonous.

It was really cold but it was also really fun and I learnt a lot from the haerenga. At the end of the trip I had learnt much more about the sand dunes than I knew at the start of the trip. I did not know that katipo spiders or skinks or the sand scarab beetle lived in the sand dunes. Sand dunes are very important, if the sand dunes were not there, sand would blow on to all the houses and when the waves came up to the houses the sand dunes wouldn’t be there to stop the waves from hitting the houses. On the trip we made mini versions of the sand dunes. Then we had lunch. After lunch we decorated the mini sand dunes we had made. It was so, so, so fun. That was my favourite part of the day!

Parts of a Whale!

This term we have been learning about pollution and the effects it has on our environment. I have worked on parts of a whale! I made up a google slide and it has parts of a whale on it. My favorite part of this task was finding the parts of a whale some of the parts I had never heard of. I am looking forward to our trips to save the sand dunes and waste Management at sock burn Metro. Here is the link to it.

He Uenuku.

Over the past 2 terms we have been designing a Maori picture book. My book is about He Uenuku. It talks about the colors of the rainbow and here are a couple of examples he whero i te uenuku and he waiporoporo i te uenuku. My favorite part is the title. Here is a link to my Mahi: LINK
